Crackle Paint Sign How-to

With the help and resources of my dear Mother in-law, I made the sign below and am cocky enough to believe someone might like a how-to post ;)

This project was inspired by the following blog post picture click here to see the full tutorial:

What you'll need:

A canvas
Acrylic paint
Crackle paint
Vinyl letters or cardstock, cricut, and a sticker maker
Chipboard letters
Colorful paper
Any extra decorations you want

I decided to use a canvas with crackle paint to get the look of wood without the cost and work of the original tutorial. I also decided to make my "be the good" out of chipboard letters with colored paper stickered to the front to make them stand our a little more. I used a Cricut to make my letters just the right size to fit my canvas (mine was a 16"x 20"). I played around with fonts and decorations until I liked it.

I modge-podged my cricut letters so that they wouldn't fade. After they dried, I sent both them and the chipboard letters through the sticker machine.

Crackle paint is something my mother in law told me about. The way it works is you paint a base coat of the color you'd like, brush on the crackle paint (mine was clear), and apply a top coat. As the top coat dries, it begins to crack which makes it appear as old paint on wood.

This is before the top coat dried

and after

Just stick the letters and decorations on and Viola!
